Upset the Apple Cart

A manager approached me this week, frustrated that his 1-on-1s with staff had become repetitive and not as effective as they once were. He knew something was off but wasn’t sure how to fix it.

After a quick chat, we brainstormed a few ideas, and now he’s shaking things up in those meetings.

It got me thinking – how many other leaders are stuck in the same routine, hesitant to make changes with their team or business? Change can feel uncomfortable, but it’s often exactly what’s needed to boost productivity, morale, and creativity. Here’s why mixing things up is so important:

👉 Fresh Energy – Let’s be real: doing the same thing week after week can leave everyone feeling drained. A small tweak – like restructuring meetings or revamping the agenda – can inject fresh energy and keep things from getting stale.

👉 More Efficiency – When things aren’t flowing as they should, little adjustments can make a big difference. Whether it’s shortening meetings or changing how you communicate, simple changes can boost productivity and efficiency.

👉 Shows You Listen – Making changes based on your team’s feedback shows you’re paying attention and value their input. It builds trust and lets them know you’re committed to improving their work experience.

👉 Open to New Ideas – If you’re willing to try something different, your team will too. Demonstrating a willingness to experiment builds a culture where innovation thrives and continuous improvement becomes part of the everyday mindset.

The bottom line? Challenge the status quo. Don’t be afraid to mix things up. Small changes can lead to big results. As a leader, it’s your job to keep things moving forward – or head in a new direction when what once worked no longer does. Your simple motto?

⚡ If it ain’t working, change it. Try something different.

So as you walk past the apple 🍏 cart … go ahead, tip it over a little. You might be surprised where those apples roll.
