When Your Manager’s Cooked, So Is Your Culture

Advisory firm Gallup just released their 2025 Global Workplace report.

The headline?

Engagement is tanking. Burnout is rising.

We’ve dropped to just 21% of people actually giving a damn at work.

Put another way: 8 out of every 10 workers are merely going through the motions. Willing to go the extra yard? Keen to bring their best to work each day?

Not a chance.

Globally, it’s costing $438 billion in lost productivity.

I can’t even get my head around a number that big. I just know it’s a massive problem.

While all the talk is about AI and tech trends, the real risk might be much closer to home:

👉 Are your best people quietly burning out, while the business keeps asking for more?

Guess who’s feeling it most?

Managers.

Your managers.

It’s like asking someone to drive a high-performance car …

… with flat tyres, no fuel, and a blindfold on.

Maybe it’s time we stopped handing out resilience brochures. Or putting up another motivational poster in the lunchroom. Or buying a new ping-pong table.

What we need instead is practical leadership:

✅ Managers trained to lead humans, not just juggle tasks.

✅ Regular check-ins that aren’t a waste of time.

✅ Clear expectations and genuine support.

✅ Cultures that back people – instead of just tracking them.

Because if your leadership team isn’t feeling it, your business will soon follow.

The good news?

It’s easy to fix this.

But it starts with leaders who genuinely want to.
